>>20786211Gotta say I'm pretty bitter about getting circumcised. But I'm almost angrier at how people here in the states view it as innocuous.
I know culture can be a hell of a drug, but even if you sit a person down and go point by point they'll come up with excuses about this or that or try to minimize it.
For men I think it's mostly an issue of pride, they don't want to admit to being "harmed", "victimized" or "made lesser" especially in regards to their manhood, so they exercise mental gymnastics to defend themselves. I've found I've actually been much more successful in convincing women it is wrong, but most are still rather callous or indifferent toward the issue.
Here's some arguments that I have found to be "relatively" successful in convincing people the practice is wrong (these should not be presented in a confrontational or judgmental way, rather always from a good faith position to try to make them understand the severity of what this barbaric practice entails)
>Is it alright for me to cut off my babies ears?this is especially helpful for countering the "it's just a flap of skin" argument.
>If you've never had a foreskin how do you know what you're missing out on?Good for making the point to men when they say "it's no big deal I love sex"
>Why resort to surgery as the default for hygiene? You can tie this one back to the ears "your mother told you to wash behind your ears, she didn't cut them off
>Why is it acceptable to cut (for the most part don't use mutilate) your child's genitals? And the absolute king, the argument that usually makes even the most stalwart defenders of circumcision stop and think.
>would you do this to your daughter?Sometimes they will come back with " female circumcision is so much worse they remove the clitoris!"(The most extreme and least common form of FGM) but you can easily just counter with "well then, would you just remove her labia?" and if the situation permits you being a bit cheeky "for aesthetic purposes?"
