No debt, single, self-employed, not homeowner (rentfagging), about 2koz silber bullion, 1oz golb, plus about 35-40K worth of more-or-less liquid collectibles (TCG mostly, antiques, WWII memorabilia,..) & numismatics. And until yesterday about $1K on my bank account kek. (Thanks dad, love u!)

Not interested in purchasing a home for now, prices still are stupidly high on top of high interest rates. I've not enough capital for that, any bank would deny me a loan (i'm not declaring incomes), and i don't want to go in debt during my lifetime, no matter the reason.
Plus i get some renting help via government gibs for a 75% handicap, so my rent is low compared to normal ppl. I'd lose that aid if i became a homeowner.

I don't think there is a very active numismatic scene around me, the closest probably would be Paris.

What we have a lot though are dying boomers. I guess the best deals in the numis world are made when you have a lot of contacts/friends and freshly minted widows call you first to liquidate their relatives' collection because they already know you. Sadly i've none of this. Connexion wise i'm like a newborn when it come to older folks. All what my friends collect are CC debts and various addictions lol. But i'm motivated.

Maybe i should start by creating accounts on french numis forums/discords and present myself..
How would you proceed if you were in my shoes fren?

That's something i tried once, i contacted them online, but they told me they would only accept if i was a professional and not a private collector. Idk if it was true or if they'd be willing to bend the rule in exchange for some baksheesh, most likely they simply politely told me to fuck off kek.

A friend of mine is on the verge of financial ruin. He's a great guy who owns a company (it's him and a partner) of tuning and repairing old chord pianos. Most his customers are quite old, bourgeois and are regulars.
His problem is a kind of nightmarish version of what we are entertaining. Over the years, he got the opportunity to purchase a lot of pianos from boomers/their heir for pennies on the dollar, he took few loans to do so. And we are talking good stuff here.

Thing is,... nobody gives a shit about playing piano anymore in dumb-o-world, the market is getting clogged big time with ancient, expensive pianos from dead boomies. But catalogues' estimations in this tiny world are slow to react, they still display decade old buyback prices.
It bite my friend hard. Not only he got stuck with pianos tagged for a fortune on catalogues but nobody wants irl, but he got to pay monthly storage fees in a pretty large space, got to upkeep said pianos because it hates humidity and not being played on, on top of paying back the loans he compulsed (it's not super large figures, but still, it's very stressful to him).

I will try to meet up with him this week and ask him if we could link up, he might become my ears and be my connexion/bridge to the local boomie-bourgeois planet. No idea how we could proceed or if it could end up to something, but if i can help him to keep his head above water by adding few bux here and there, even just a bit, that'd be great, he really is a great dude who don't deserve the mess he is in.

I'd consider this a good thing, sounds like your local area is ripe for harvesting cheap boomoid coin and antique silverware hoards! I dunno how to try advertising, maybe little ads placed in newspapers or local periodicals that old people still like to read? Maybe you have active local Internet forums or Facebook groups? I don't think coin forums would be a good source of cheapies but that could be worth trying too, maybe focus on France-only collector forums and say you want the foreign stuff they don't care about?

That honestly sounds like an amazing idea, the upper class old boomers with pianos will also probably have good antique books, heirloom silverware and other goodies so you might want to suggest a new partnership with an expanded focus on all antiques (including coins) that those people have collecting dust, it'll keep you busy researching and learning but if you acquire just one good estate you guys will be set, I know for certain that there are still many bourgeois family library book collections in France that are worth a fortune and the piano warehouse would be perfect for storing antiquarian books, you really need to chat with your friend fren. Not as many french language books will be as highly valuable and desirable as English language books but most French boomers probably don't know anything about that, so you can leverage your bilingual fluency and slurp valuable books that proud old monolingual frogs would consider inferior.

The lot of tiny silber coins i was waiting for arrived today bros!!
Was fuming when i saw the absolute state of the packaging (coins all together in a cheap ziplock back directly taped on a cardboard folded in half with my address written on it lol... zero protection.
But my anger quickly dissipated when i saw the tiny treasures within the bag. Minisilber from the late 1800s from all over the world, some in incredible condition.
I'm gonna take pics to share with you. I wish the phone lens i ordered already arrived, i don't think my phone will do a great job at taking pics of such tiny objects.

OK lets give it a try. I took pics of few coins. Tried the macro lens at first but it was laughably horrible, somehow the wide angle in 4K is much more accurate, even if i have to keep the phone 15cm away.
Please apologize for the quality, but those coins are absurdly tiny (not as tiny as the microscopic greek hemiobols & tetartemorions from scrapfren of course, but 1g tier of tiny, thats as tiny as we got in "recent" time).

Nickles are pretty based because they're made of nickel and copper, but I'm most of us disregard (modern) pennies, dimes, and quarters due to having zero copper or silver in them.

Anytime we see gold&silver crash alongside the markets, it's the big players ditching their paper G&S ETFs because they need liquidity to close their leveraged positions elsewhere FAST.
Since PMs are considered a safe bet by default, they tend to ditch it last, thus usually in the event of a 5% market contraction, G&S will go down let say 2.5%. But here it's more brutal than usual, meaning they really had to scrap all they got to cover their others positions. Too much leverage everywhere, any friction in the markets is sending shockwaves.
The past 2 months in the stock market were fucking unreal, tickers were unironically more volatile than the worst shitcoins, with up&down of 10% in a session's day.
To put it in perspective, in 2024, the average DAILY volatility delta is higher than the annual volatility during the early 00s.
It's pure nonsense. Hell, just the idea of hedge funds selling supposedly silver-backed ETFs with a x403 leverage compared to the physical counterpart to deleverage even more ridiculously leveraged positions on hype-stonks with a P/E of 50+ who have no ground whatsoever in reality (nvidia's net income in 2022 was $9B, for a stock who is now valued a twice the TOTAL listed chineses companies worldwide) is just... i don't even have the words to describe such clownish kikery.

Beautiful half dimes fren, be careful but I think they'll clean up very well, maybe just some soaking in acetone/alcohol and gentle brushing will remove the peasant grease, if not then the normal aluminum foil and baking soda trick will surely do the trick.

I got some IRL cheapies just a bit ago while looking for bicycle helmets and knee/elbow pads at the local Goodwill for the kiddos, slurped exactly 50g of solid sterling and another 20g or so in the knife handle for $4.77 with tax, melt value about $57. Nothing amazing but it paid for the bicycling gear several times over, happy hunting bro.

That's a good price and a great way to start.
I suggest making a google sheet or excel document and tracking all of your purchases and what you paid for them so you can see your average price paid and other stats.
Now I mainly only buy when I can get it for lower than my average paid price, unless it's a piece I like.

Do you have a touchstone + nitric acid yourself fren? You can purchase rudimentary kits for 15-20 bux online (always thought it was a great business idea, the kind who sells shovels during a goldrush.. Diluted nitric acid into distilled water, a plastic vial and a tiny bit of stone shouldn't cost more than 2-3 bux per kit to make). It's nice to feel safe when you aren't sure about your purchase. Once you are familiar with silver items you don't bother using it, you just know, but the first few months of scraping it's worth getting one.

ps : i hope you didn't pay too much for this Hitler medal, this is the sussiest medal ever lol.

You can deposit checks (cheques) with an app and take cash (monies) out by ATM of course. All my local banks are massive cunts, so I don't patronize them anymore.
