Churchill put America first because he was trying to convince us to join the war, he knew that the U.K couldn't win the Western Front alone and the U.S was a vast, economically powerful country with a large population and cultural sympathies with the U.K. It isn't surprising that he put so much effort into it; he was trying to save his own country by wooing us.
As per Pearl Harbor, there isn't any evidence of this, so its a pointless claim.
