>>21034717Ime sidepins are mainly dependent on the genetics of the culture. Had this one hillbilly culture that pined everywhere except the surface and it had a liner too, kinda hard to see the liner since I used a clear one but not a single pin came from the surface. Still, it makes cleanup and pulling out the sub without damaging it so much easier and you also get to see how well the culture is transporting water since the sub shrinks as its growing and the liner sticks to it.
If the reason you don't use a liner is because you hate cutting it around the edges once you have the tub made I get it, I been there. So instead I precut all my liners to fit the dimensions of the tub I'm using. I suppose it only really matters if you're working with monos, but I still do it with shoeboxes too
