>>21040553>you could honestly just compete by allowing "nitro" features for free because discord will never give up their cash cow. we'd like to be able to make some money from it too (just so i and others could work on it full-time), and i'm very against advertising so i don't want to try to make money from ads. although it's also probably kind of pointless to try to expect to make money from offering a nitro/premium option before we have at least thousands of thousands of users. but currently we do have discord nitro-level upload and text size limits, at least. and i plan on adding a custom emote-ish feature soon
and to be clear, i didn't set out to make an alternative to discord. just many people who use the product say it feels like a (preferable) alternative to discord and irc. some people reading this probably already know what it is
>that's just the nature of the beast. yeah, if we gain any real success then it's inevitable and not even something i could or would complain about. it's not going to stop me from trying. we'll try to differentiate ourselves in other ways if they end up copying some of the core features. but first we have to at least actually gain a decent userbase
