I'm headed to OCS soon (yeah yeah, military is in the family going back a long time so I kinda had to do it). Is it true that I can make a Sgt Major salute me as a butterbar LT?

Also OP if you pull rank on a Sgt Major as a Lieutenant it will feel good for all of 10 minutes before you have to get the Colonels boot surgically extracted from your anal cavity. Don't piss off senior NCOs - there's lesson 1-10 of being a junior Officer.

A good Sergeant Major will not have to be forced to salute a junior officer. He will salute you if only to be a good example for lower NCOs and enlisted.

If he doesn’t salute, he’s probably has a legitimate excuse like he was busy performing a task or his focus was elsewhere.

If you ever try to lock up a Sergeant Major, I hope you like being the assistant S-3 for special projects.

Yes. But it's tradition that the first time an NCO salutes you after your commissioning from OCS, you have to hand him a silver dollar. I learned this when my dad was cadre at Army OCS at Ft. Benning 35 years ago.
