My grandfather told me that during a hand-to-hand fight he knocked out a German soldier's jaw with a buttstock (with nails hammered in), the German's face turned into a bloody mess with his jaw hanging off, then my grandfather took pity on him and hammered his jaw back in with the same buttstock (with nails hammered in) to fix the situation. He still lost a lot of blood after that though and died on the way to the POW camp. My grandfather then added more nails to the buttstock so that the Germans would die at once.
