For young people it was even better. Your parents and grandparents still had money and resources. Could afford things. You could with pocket money or shitty kid jobs still live a decent kid's life.
It was also the golden age of vidya and internet.
Both were so fucking comfy you wouldn't even know.
Being naive and young we also believed we were actually on the upswing of human accomplishment.
Many of us genuinely believed we were going to see real space exploration within our lifetimes. Moon-bases. The first Mars landing.
There was still a sense of hope for the future in the decade or two following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Cold War that we were living to see a new chapter of humanity open up.
It's probably best Gen-Z hardly remember it and Gen-Alpha not at all.
Society was sort of like the initial period after the Titanic had hit the iceberg.
There were warning signs to be sure, 9/11 and the following forever wars were a indicator things weren't well, but nobody was panicking. The band was still playing. Snacks were still being handed out and most people weren't worried.
