>>21141036TLDR lore version: Touhou takes place in Gensokyo, an eastern fantasy wonderland realm separated from the normal world by magic or some shit. Each game and manga is sort of it’s own adventure that continues to expands upon the already sizable cast and generally add more lore through dialogue and in-game descriptions dark souls style. Mind you the series has been going on since the early 2000s so there’s like 19 main games and a plethora of supplemental media like albums and manga that flesh out the universe. While it’s pretty obscure here in the west it’s very popular in Japan and is sorta a cultural staple in some ways similar to hello kitty and Godzilla (albeit without as much shared overseas popularity).
