2) you both carry on dating for X many years and you invest and increasingly vast amount of time, money, and emotional investment, never get married, and you lose 100% of everything you invested
3) Your relationship is a failure and the little amount of meaningless time and emotional investment you put into X person goes to waste
It's really sad when the best possible outcome is having a shitty, short lived relationship that means nothing.
