Satan bets God that Job will eventually cave and curse God's name if his life started to suck. Satan was arguing that the only reason Job was so pious was because his faith had been rewarded with a successful life. He literally tortured a dude, killed his family members, gave him deformities and made him poor, just for fun, just to see what would happen.
