Brick or other heavyweight homes with reinforced structures are mostly either high-dollar homes or common in areas with heavy inclement weather to withstand flooding and storms.
Though wood houses are more common in places like tornado alley because they have underground bunkers to shelter during the tornado, since its more cost effective to just rebuild the house if it gets swept up by a tornado than to try and build a structure that can avoid getting destroyed by it without the entire living space just being underground.
