>>21211372Jesus said "And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19) This was recorded by His disciple Matthew.
Because a rich man came up to Him seeking eternal life, however the rich man was not willing to give up His riches. The man's wealth was an idol in his life. Some people don't want to give up for God. Some people would go to hell for the sake of their porn or their wealth or their gluttony. You have to be willing to stand up against these things in your own life.
It's interesting when the rich ruler asks Jesus how he might inherit eternal life, Jesus says he already knows the commandments, and he begins to list the ten commandments, but he also adds "defraud not" which is not one of the ten commandments, it's a random thing to throw in there. But Jesus might have brought it up because the rich ruler was in fact defrauding people to get his money, we get this same scenario hinted at with another rich man that Jesus interacted with. The rich ruler says he's kept all the commandments from his youth, in other words he just lied to himself. After he leaves his disciples asked the Lord, how can anyone be saved? Jesus said with men it's impossible but with God all things are possible. God can save you despite yourself if you just make that decision to turn to him even if you can't fully break the idols in your life by your own hand.
It's popular now to believe Jesus actually said a rope not a camel, which makes a lot more sense. The Aramaic word for rope and Greek word for camel are similar, but it seems a bit odd to assume we know more than the people actually living in the first and second century.
