VR is basically in the same state SSD's was before as the technology has existed for far longer before your average normie could even afford one back in the start of 2010.
You need a minimum of 8k PER EYE in order to avoid the common issues like headaches and motion sickness. It's a long way until VR (and subsequently graphic cards) can provide a proper experience in high fidelity. Same with the costs overall for VR, they need to get the technology down properly and get it made cheaper.
The latest HTC Vive can only push 5k and that's split between both eyes. And that's in 2024, 8 years after HTC vive first came out, and the htc vive overall has likely been in development since atleast 2012.
For example. A 250 Gb SSD (SATA) back in 2012 cost 2500 sek. That same SSD now costs like 320 sek and at most 399 sek. And this is despite inflation.
A 512 GB Sata SSD would cost you 8000 sek in 2012. Today it costs 679 sek.
TL;DR give it 20-30 years and VR (proper VR where you do not notice the small black lines) will be affordable to even your average schmuck like yourself. VR in that future will likely cost max 400USD (including the controls) and likely all you will need is a 800 USD graphics card for 8k and another 500-600 usd for the rest of the computer components.
