You could apply this logic to Sweden/Norway/Denmark, and even add Finland. You could apply it to the East Slavs and South Slavs. You could apply to at least parts of Spain/France/Italy, and add Switzerland. The Dutch also have a continuum with England. Who have a continuum with Germany, and Germany with Scandinavia. And the English with the Welsh/Scottish/Irish. And around and around you go.
I can't think of any European country, or even part of a European country, that is more similar to a non-European country than to another European country. With the exception of Russia(if we're including Russia as part of Europe). Hell, the logic could probably apply to at least the European part of Russia. Tatars are probably more genetically similar to ethnic-Russians than to other Turkic peoples.
