have you ever tried arriving at 9, working 8 hours, and then just leaving?
what would happen, really? are the insane work hours legal? are they in your contracts? or is this just another one of those stereotypical social compliance "this would bring great shame to my family" things I hear about (obviously, I know nothing about it, it might all be bullshit)
also, what about international companies with offices in japan? or bigger japanese companies that expanded abroad? is the work culture the same there?
I know here in portugal there are companies that try to do it. but only absolute fucking idiots let themselves get dragged into long hours by incompetent managers with terrible time management skills. you can absolutely do your job and leave in time and the worst you'll get are braindead comments about "leaving early". fuck them.
