Trump and his friends had deep connections to businesses (ESPECIALLY OIL) through Russia and with Russia.
Either way, Trump was a better outcome for Russia.
In Putin's mind, he probably saw what he did as "not hacking" the election itself. But he did influence it heavily and effectively. And he knows that, and has already made it very clear to Trump.
