It's the most physically demanding sport on the planet where you run almost nonstop for 20+ km per match (mostly sprinting), even at the amateur level. This amazing sport involves running head first into other players, dodging and fending off players running head first into you, pushing, kicking, handballing. One amazing, but hard to pull feat is the spectacular mark (or a 'hanger' in more colloquial terms), where you use another player on the field as a platform to catch the ball high in the air. Players are not allowed to wear any protective equipment except standard leather shoes and mouthguards. There is no 'off-side' rule, so even the players in the backline can potentially score a goal and all positioning is relative to the position of the ball.
