What you don't realize is that the inflated value of these retarded "artworks" are actually a money laundering scam. Transferring large amounts of money accross borders attracts regulators/law enforcement/the tax man. Purchases on the other hand, don't. And since the value of art is "subjective" there's no argument that the purchaser overpaid.
So for example columbian drug dealers smuggle cash out of America, deposit it in a columbian bank, then use that to purchase "fine art" which creates a legal deposit of American dollars in the united states, which can then be spent on things of real value like cars and guns.
And you can immediately see why post-modernism has been so successful since it's art for the sake of art. It is inarguably art since it serves no other purpose and has no value except as art. And thus since there is always a demand for new "art" to facilitate the money laundering, post-modernism has come to dominate the art world just by simple economic incentives.
Interestingly enough, in countries with low rates of drug use and crime, particularly Japan, the culture has almost completely rejected post-modernism and focused entirely on popular appeal and the search for objective beauty.
