Losing the tech means they sold off their old equipment. I remember when the world switched to CNC and the entire surplus world was LOADED mith the old school machines. You could buy a Metal lathe capable of building a battleship crankshaft in working order for $5000. It required you to move it and if i remember, the thing was like 30-40 feet tall and like 100+ feet long and weighed so mich that you had to build special 3" steel plate reinforced concrete floor just to supoort the weight. I think it was over 100 tons.....there is still alot of that equipment put there, especially the smaller stuff, in private ownership.
