All science rests on this principle. Ultimately to learn anything at all we must presume the universe of our imperfect sense is real. Thus we do not experience the universe directly, but experience only an internal simulation of it as interpreted through our understanding of it.
Is an orange called an orange because it is orange?
Or is orange called orange because it is the colour of oranges?
In either case the truth is oranges are orange, but this is only because we have agreed them to be through our own subjective experience of them.
