>>21426812The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday (9) Bill 1494/21, by deputy Fred Costa (Patriota-MG), which typifies the crime of zoophilia in the Environmental Crimes Law. The proposal will be sent to the Senate.
The approved text is a substitute for the rapporteur, deputy Marcelo Queiroz (PP-RJ), which included the possibility of temporary imprisonment for those indicted for this crime when there are well-founded reasons, in accordance with any evidence admitted in criminal legislation.
“The project will be a watershed for the protection of animals, which are sentient beings, but are incapable of defending themselves against acts and conduct carried out by human beings,” stated Queiroz.
Punishment
The penalty for committing a lewd act or having sexual intercourse with an animal of any non-human species will be imprisonment for 2 to 6 years, a fine and prohibition of custody. The penalty is increased up to double if the animal dies.
For Fred Costa, “zoophilia is an act of cowardice, because it demonstrates a character flaw, and the project also has an educational purpose”.
According to Deputy Delegate Matheus Laiola (União-PR), who had his project (PL 3385/23) attached to the main project, the approval of the text is a major step forward. “I didn’t imagine that, seven months into our mandate, we would already approve this project,” he said.
