Robotics IRL isn't as sexy as people make it out. I study mechatronics engineering, which is very similar to robotics, but with a strong emphasis on mechanics (think like calculating forces and torques), electronics, and a bit of programming. Most of the "robotics" stuff I've seen is just about analyzing (IOW, using equations) to think of how industrial machines and robots work.
The good thing about it is that you can learn CAD so you can make your own dildos and coffeemakers.
