Yes they really bring together all the flavours and make the dish taste comfy if that makes any sense. I used to question if they do anything at all but I tried making rice with and without and the bay leaf rice came out much better.

It is, I haven't had it in a while and it's like medicine for the soul and body. I made a lot so I can freeze half of it to make rice or make sauces for meats.

I put just one crushed leaf in a cheesecloth sack along with the other herbs. better flavor with less and no floaty bits.
