So what is it about democracy that supposedly stops it from becoming a tyranny like the Soviet Union or the Nazis, I've watched a lot of documentaries about these places and they always mention democracy, or even on the news they say it's democracy that keeps us from becoming a tyranny.

But I was wondering, can say actually say what it is about democracy specifically that achieves this result? Because I think it's basically propaganda
