Anon, that sort of chart can be very good. Because various shorts would've piled on throughout early 2022 and been sitting in profit.

However if the first batch of obvious stops above 18 start getting hit, they'll close out. And that buying to cover kicks the price up to the next guy's stop and so on. It could teleport to 28 pretty much overnight.

So do I, that's why I have a strict "only two mugs" policy and use disposable plasticware (four month's supply is like $2. It's absolutely worth it. I hate the waste it creates but $8/year to not have to wash silverware is a fantastic tradeoff.)

The way it works in practice is that merchants bake the fees into the price so everyone pays a little bit and credit card users are given a little bit back in compensation for participating (plus the fraud protection which would otherwise be worth a lot more.)
If you have a *very* nice bank (like USAA's FSB) debit cards can be ok. I've gotten them to take fraudulent charges off my card before. Generally it's not a great idea to use debit cards except as a backup though unless you have very little self control.

Also having access to the credit can be really good for bursty things like emergancies and it lets much more effectively self insure things which can save you a ton of money.

I used to be one of the "no credit card" people for similar reasons until my last gf talked me into getting a discover card. It's definitely worth it.

Honestly there should be a card where it immediately takes the money from your account, like a debit card, but gives you a normal cashback (2%/3%) immediately plus a bit more due to not having waited 1-2 months to pay for this balance (0.3% to 0.6% with current rates). Plus the issuer does not have to worry about you being good for the money, so they have lesser costs. I think this would work pretty well, but it's just too antisemitic to be allowed.
