But, if the shared basis of your friendship is browsing 4chan, is it really a surprise that he would try to relate to you with 4chan-specific memes and lingo, especially if it was your first time meeting and/or that's how he normally talks to you online? Like, if I became friends with someone online because we both enjoyed skateboarding, I'd probably focus on talking about skateboarding if I met him.
