They are, interestingly they are also herd animals as their distant ancestors were omnivorous ungulates, that is hooved animals. It's why entire Pilot Whales pods beach when one beaches, just like when one Sheep falls off a cliff they all do. Not even IQ related since Pilot Whales are extremely high IQ.

Even if they are carnivores, if they have the technology to travel interstellar distances I'd imagine they've developed cooperation strategies and wouldn't just come to eat us. It takes a lot more resources to cross the galaxy than to just breed/grow meat on your home planet. More likely though, we will never interact with alien life aside from robotic probes.
