>some stuff you dont need data to seethat's true, but a lot of people aren't in a position to physically see/observe that stuff, unless they're actually exploring and seeing it firsthand (most people live cynical routine lives and spend a lot of time on smartphones)
whereas, in the past, you could more or less trust news, internet reporting, radio, etc. atleast enough to get a basic grasp on things, & then think critically to discover new things from there.
those institutions almost acted like extra sense organs. it can be extremely powerful, and in fact it was.
the incentive structures eat through everything. that which calls itself science is no longer science, that which calls itself news is no longer news, etc.
but they want you to throw the baby out with the bathwater, blaming "science" and "news". don't fall for it.
