For hundreds of thousands of years, human women were the spoils of war, the ones who submitted to the cruelty of their captors survived and bred with them, those who resisted were killed, their line ended. As a result all modern women are like this, walking cases of Stockholm syndrome, ready to submit to the strongest, cruelest male at the drop of a hat. Male pining after shield maidens, honorable women, waifus, ect. is probably a vestigial psychological disposition that harkens back to a time in our prehistory when competition for mates was perhaps not as harsh, and thus women had not yet psychologically adapted to the extreme violence men are capable of when mating opportunities are more scarce. Not as sure about the last part, but I find it an intriguing theory.
