>>21917452We used to do an occasional LAN party with my brother and my cousin. We had a room on the second floor of our house all to ourselves, for the whole night. Sometimes we played cs 1.6. Since there were just the three of us, we would play mostly bots, but sometimes two of us would use knives against the third one, who could choose any weapon. Anyone remember rats4_final? That shit was so rad.
We played Empire Earth too, a strategy game where you progress through eras, thus gaining better and better resources as you go along. We all capped the setting to not go beyond the 5th centuries, where you would just have wooden ships and archers and fucking priests. And yeah, that's one of the strategy games where the AI would just "cheat" and get resources by some algorithm, so capturing a resource was only for your own good and could never hurt the AI. The three of us would just try to gang up on 1 expert AI, as a rule. My brother would build fucking walls in the middle of the forest on his island. But me and my cousin would actually wage WW3 on the fucking AI, only rarely and momentarily getting an upper hand, or what we thought was an upper hand, but it was nearly impossible to beat the fucker, resulting in some kind of a stalemate. It was good fun.
When we lost or it was too late, we would just sit for an hour and reminesce about the funny bits that just happened, and conjure up strategies and what not.
Now I play PUBG with a friend of mine for a few hours weekly, and yeah, we still get a lot of laughs out of it, but god damn it's just not the same. It's not LAN at all. You can't just stand up, quietly walk up behind your bro and see where he's hiding. The art of LAN has been lost, even though we have hundreds of coop games now, nearly all of which suck, and the discord shit, while it can be fun, is, right again, just not the same.
