However, it is not lawful to be in possession of knives, in public spaces, without a lawful intention/reason to be using them.
e.g. a butcher, or chef, could lawfully carry a meat-cleaver or boning knife from their car, across a public pavement, and thence into their normal place of employment;
nevertheless, they couldn't legally justify brandishing a Japanese katana aloft, while wearing a ceremonial Samurai Uniform and bellowing "Banzai" at 120 dB SPL on the same pavement:
even if they did claim to be a bona fide Sushi Chef, when the local SWAT team arrived.
