>>21963054They actually didn't though and anyone who knows a modicum of Roman history knows this. The Celts, and even more so the Germanics, were a constant military threat to the Romans, even sacking and humiliating Rome multiple times. This is why Caesar's subjugation of Gaul was such a big deal. Not only that, but Rome incorporated Celtic armor, notably helmets, shields, and armors as their own, giving credence to Celtic smithing. Some speculate even the pilum was inspired by the Celts to their north.
Also, the Celts weren't as dumb and "barbaric" as people often think. They just lacked a written language at the time. The result is that most of what people know of them is based on Roman propaganda meant to discredit them as a people. Remember, the Romans had a big-time superiority complex lol. For example, we often think the Celts as dirty, smelly, and hairy. But the reality is that they used soaps for basic hygiene, as opposed to scraping olive oil like the Romans, and they were known for their elaborate and well-kempt long, braided hair. "Barbarian", after all, just means hairy, not necessarily savage or dirty. So when they said "barbarians are at the gate!", it was like saying "hairies are the gate!", or just another way of associating them as foreign invaders since Roman culture at the time dictated short and clean-shaven grooming.
I say this as a big Rome fanboy too, huge fan of the time period. If only Trajan had finished the job. It just sucks how misconceptions are so mainstream now. Like the Spanish Inquisition. We're told it was an ultra oppressive, racist, and fanatically persecutory period where millions were burned at the stake to appease racist White Christians. The reality wasn't nearly as widespread nor brutal as mainstream society or Hollyjew want you to think. A lot of how we perceive it today was molded by Spain's arch rival at the time: English Protestant propaganda.
The Brit Celts were BTFO though. Boudica, the original DEI queen lol.
