Ask for a printout of your """prescription""" (again, NOT a doctor.) They will seethe, but it is your medical record, and they have to give it to you.
Take this home and find a cheap website to order glasses from. There are plenty. You will pay a fraction of the cost. Some websites offer cheap frames + lenses for as little as $9.
Here’s the trick. Order a lower SPH diopter than what you have been given.
Eg, let’s say you are given SPH of -2.5 left eye, -1.5 right eye.
Order -1.5 left eye, -0.5 right eye instead.
You can play around with this depending on your needs (night driving you may need more correction etc). But going lower than recommended means your glasses won’t destroy your eyes. If you get exactly what the optometrist recommends, you will feel nausea every time you put your glasses on, and every time you take them off you will not be able to see 2 feet in front of you until your eyes readjust. Eventually this makes your vision permanently worse, and you will be back at the optometrist getting a higher “””prescription.”””
With astigmatism (CYL/AXIS), don’t change the measurements. As far as we know this a physical deformity at the front of the eye, and shouldn’t get ‘worse’ with glasses use. Enter the CYL and AXIS numbers as your optometrist provided.
Some people claim that over time, you can progressively lower your diopter, and ‘fix’ your vision, like in the story about the soldier on deployment. You should also wear your glasses as little as possible.
Personally, I ordered a pair that corrected my astigmatism, and gave a MILD improvement to my myopia. I wear these at the computer so that my eyes don’t get strained. Also look away from the PC every 20 mins, and remember to blink.
The above info should help you not destroy your eyes with the glasses jew.
