thoughts on an imageboard that bans phoneposting?

what about banning talk about current events?
this could mean political current events or current events in general, including for example drama around a new video game release. i think it can help keep the site sane but might be too authoritarian.

its easier than you think

old websites are rarely compatible with phones simply because the site doesnt adjust its size for phone screens. Simply not accommodating phones in the css/html will filter the vast majority of people

another way is to block phone useragents, or to block certain resolutions, which could be spoofed but would at least take effort from phonefags.

i think the bigger issue with more rules is that altchans usually can't keep an active userbase and these might make one even more niche.

i think strange rules will make an altchan grow slower, but perhaps it will live longer, too

if EVERY SITE compromises EVERY other aspect for userbase, all you get is subpar, identical websites, where none has more users than the other.
it's a zero sum game. the only reason you'd prioritize maximum users is to compete with the other websites, which isn't worth doing anyway, unless all you're interested in is money.

if you have a short zoomer attention span and arent willing to deal with a slow site, you are not going to run your alt chan for long. Its why its all oldfags running those things. people who dont mind their site having no posts for 4 hours at a time

i don't want maximum users i just don't want a slow as hell site where you need to wait days to get a reply and your thread sits awkwardly on the front page the whole time. i don't like /v/ or /b/ speed but i like /bant/'s, especially old /bant/'s. not too fast but not too slow. it isn't so fast where your thread gets bumped off the tenth page within an hour with no replies, but you can check it multiple times a day and see new posts and have a conversation.

i think it affects the nature of an imageboard when it's so slow. it doesn't have that feeling of anonymous disposableness that fast or average speed 4chan boards have. i like my thread only being up for a day then going away into the ether.

it also develops more of a community and culture when there's more activity. the only altchans i can think of that really developed much of a culture of their own are faster ones like krautchan.
