It WAS one of the most fertile countries on Earth, but we ruined it. America's soil has been totally depleted of its nutrients from over a century of industrialized overfarming and now it's dry and barren. The real reason the US will never go to war with Russia is because our agricultural industries are totally dependent on imported Russian fertilizer. Farmers can't grow anything in the rapidly desertifying American midwest without shocking it back to life with important nutrients and minerals that the land no longer naturally possesses.
