Really feel for donald trump regarding the zelensky situation. Trying to negotiate with someone who wont empathize, wont apologize, acts stubborn and refuses to communicate is very difficult. In phaedrus, socrates is compelled to talk when he would rather rest when phaedrus makes the threat of never conversing with him again, and socrates, a lover of conversation, yields to his demands. I do not think things will work so easily with trump however. He us no philosopher first of all, and he seems like a true statesman that wants what is best, not what is opportunistic, he is not committed to some fanciful scheme that has little chance of working out, but what is possible now, what can be beneficial and good in a world that is imperfect. For now things are stalled, but i think attitudes will change and peace, and more, will come about. Some are already saying that europe will soon turn to china to solve its russia problem. A deal that will only cause more trouble and strain our already frayed relationship perhaps beyond repair. The good newa is the usa has the upper hand. The oceans protect us, our legacy investments keep us safe, and we continue to be the best option for a partner in a very messed up world filled with darkness. Hoping people come to their senses soon, a lot depends on it.

Very complex situation. Think realpolitik is a big factor more than optics and propaganda. Usa needs both europe and russia right now, as both economic and security partners for the competition with china. but they view each other as their largest respective security threats and this conflict is draining resources from the top concern and straining relationships with both. Let's say right now there is a peace treaty and Russia takes the territory that is captured. Russia is now in possession of bombed and destroyed areas that would take decades to fix. If they didn't also have to rebuild their military. They can't do it.

On the other side let's say Ukraine gets what they want, all territory back. Territory that is going to sit their useless because it is too bombed out to fix. They would spend decades just fixing the cities with actual people and other important infrastructure.

So it doesn't matter. The bombed out ruins are worth nothing, but pride because they want to win! More like a blood feud now. What did the US get out of 20 years of war in Afghanistan. Our dead and a lot of money wasted. That is the reality of war.

You are right I don't understand the stakes. Before the war Ukraine was not important and after the war it goes back to being not important. That is it from the US perspective. And without US weapons the war is over. Europe isn't going to take up the slack. They are all talk and as soon as they got to supply billions in arms they would cave. Its actually been the usas top project in europe since the 2000s. Its just not in the news very often. A lot has been invested. and momentum has shifted many times, only before it was a diplomatic and civil conflict. See orange revolution and euromaidan. And even if you were right, and you are not, there is significant value in the usa remaining the regional power broker and not conceding that role to china or russia. It is frustrating and exasperating having this problem and having incompetent and greedy partners, but that is not an ideal solution and it wont be the path that is taken and it is unserious to think it would.

Goodnight for now smg. I know morale is low and there are is a lot more ill will and seething than usual here, but its important to remember a few things. The first is not to split threads. Everyone over in the other thread is guilty of this, i forgive them i guess but just take a look at it, maybe we would be better off if they all went back to biz or reddit. If someone makes a new thread when there are others to recycle, ignore it, and always post in the most active thread. Next, its important to be optimistic, i know the yield curve inverted and bulls got whacked, but there is a lot to look forward to, in terms of a more peaceful, technological, honest and just world. Things are improving rapidly and to me the fields were merely tilled, not salted. This inversion is a public warning shot but your fear and capitulation is what they are counting on, and it doesnt always signal doom ahead.
Next, respect veteran and quality posters. Being a bad 1 line unfunny poster is ok, until you start getting smarmy with people that clearly outrank you in terms of posting ability. It is pathetic and detracts from the board dramatically.
I know everyone has been working hard investing in themselves, and tomorrow i will show some more of my progress to inspire all of your journeys. I cant manage special posts this week, technical difficulties, but i will try to have something thoughtful and meaningful to say on sunday. On monday i will be back posting at full strength, and i expect more surprises and excitement from the market, and remember march is historically the best month for intc stock, so have some hope. Praying for peace, reconciliation, and positive attitude changes. See you guys in a few hours.
