It's all about redemption. For example, in the old north, the main belief was that mostly anything goes, as long as you defend your self and your name. You should always follow that rule--mainly by use of force, but thinking/cunning was also allowed. That is it. Stand up for yourself. That is how you redeem yourself before the gods. That is the meaning of the trial that is your life. Everything else is just fluff.
Christianity also believes in the redemption idea, but it holds that there is another way to redeem yourself, by becoming baptized and accepting Jesus as your savior, because he already redeemed himself for all of us. That's it. You're redeemed! Now go help some black people.
And people wonder why there is so much faggotry these days. Imagine instead having one rule to live by, that you believe in, that means everything, and it is: I will not let people shit on me. Just that one rule. There is no "good" or "evil", no volumes of doctrine to study, no jumping through hoops; there is only those who redeem themselves, and those who don't, and the rule that separates them is very simple.
