They become obsess with Kabbala and want to use it to achieve godhood and immortality. So they start funding archaeological digs across the globe and research institutions to explore the metaphysical science of souls and the other nonmaterial mysteries of life.
Meanwhile, they are recovering strange alien artifacts, which they believe are the key to the creation of life on earth and can be used to achieve godhood. One of the artifacts is the dormant body of an angel, one of the ones used by God in Genesis to create life on Earth. Meanwhile, another body is found in antarctica of another one of God's angels. They attempt to wake this angel up, they do so, and he immediately "destroys" about a third of the planet and a large portion of the human race in the worst catastrophe since the dinosaur extinction.
Eventually, society rebuilds and recovers with everyone having massive PTSD. Now they are afraid of the angels and want to fight back against them.
They start to use one of the angels bodies to reverse engineer artificial angels, massive human bodies made of flesh and machine that militaries are told is for the defense of humanity. They are actually supposed to be the god bodies of the elites and reveal themselves to have powers far beyond what the public and military are told about them. As the series progresses, the artificial angels, called evangelions, basically wipe out all of the other angels that arrive on earth, thus also taking out anyone who can kill them. In the process, one of the evangelions achieves a power near that of God, not a god, but God. This freaks the jewish kabbal the fuck out, they panicked and go with plan b, so they just try to send everyone to heaven instead. It works to various degrees. It's a mech show like sopranos is a mob show. 10/10
