i get what you mean though, i didn't mean to say sex is always pointless
it's pointless the same way drinking is pointless.
if you're dissatisfied with life, neither sex nor drinking will help. they'll just make you more resentful and self-hating if anything, AND they'll be ruined for you if you do fix your life.
sex is something which should take care of itself once you're living well and feel fulfilled, i think. even from a hedonistic viewpoint, it's better that way.
