also growing crops is typically very dependant on weather and the topography of the land whereas both of those are far more forgiving when it comes to grazing animals
basically it's just not as practical and kills a shitload of animals anyway
certainly we can reduce the harm to these animals by having them live good lives free ranging rather than being cooped up in factory farms at least though
