First off as for the clothing, if you can afford it, or already have one, a nice black belt goes a long way towards making you look nice. If you are biking, you may want to wear a white t and a pair of whatever else, and bring the nice polo, and khakis along in a bag. Then get changed before making introductions. That isn't always possible, but I speak from experience.
As for speaking to the managers, first and foremost, do not let them know you are desperate for a job. Be confident, but not cocky. Make eye contact. Smile. Speak clearly, and with purpose. Avoid vocalized pauses as best you can. Be prepared with what you want to say, and know beforehand the answers to common questions like what your strengths and weaknesses are.
Also, don't pretend like you're above working fast food. There are a lot worse jobs out there, it's easy to get in the door, and it's easy to move up, especially if you already have managerial experience. Plus, despite what you're saying about homelessness seeming like an option you are considering, don't be an idiot.
