I meant that the modern Porsches and BMWs are no longer about the magical dynamic between a car and its driver, it's all about power and efficiency and lap time and traction control and whatever trackday bullshit the modern consumer is obsessed with. A 2003 BMW M5 has good power, but not overwhelming at all, meaning that you can use the full engine without breaking multiple speed limits as you're driving in backroads and highways. It also has a simplistic and ergonomic interior that is not gaudy with carbon fiber trims, didn't throw excessive technology onto your face that you won't even use often, and the engine and other components are much simpler to work on and fix.
There's also the benefit of having a trusty manual transmission and a naturally-aspirated V8 that sounded beastly, none of that turbo crap that's a bitch to fix and lags a lot.
