Greed flows from one source, the wellspring of hatred and lust for material wealth - Israel. Even before it was made official, its people walked the earth spreading the bad news, taking what they want and damning the rest of the population for poverty, and we're all stupid enough to let them.
If we were intelligent as a people, we would recognize greed as a mental illness, and isolate its sufferers, medicating them heavily until they can be a part of society without hurting others.
