i have also recently accidentally meet a group of people that i used to know and interact with in high school in a local supermarket and they all looked barely recognisable with pink hair and tattoos and beards and 2014 hipster type of clothes and i looked exactly the same i used to look 8 years ago

One time at my job some guy walked up to me and was like "yo wassup Anon (he knew my name), I haven't seen you in forever" and I had no idea who he was but I pretended to recognize him to not make things awkward and was like "oh hey nice seeing you again" and then we parted and I never saw him again
