>>233625If I were going to off myself, it would have to be 100% guaranteed and instant. If it was instant but had a chance of leaving me alive and crippled (gunshot), that's no good. If it was guaranteed but slow, that's no good either.
Jumping from a great height has a good chance of failing (some enterprising samaritan might erect a net, or I might have my fall arrested by a taller part of the building that intended) and also would leave several full seconds for me to regret it.
People recommend some kind of helium bug contraption, but that sounds fucking awful to me. Plenty of time to be discovered and rescued and thereby left retarded due to all the dead brain cells, plenty of equipment to go wrong... and what if I were somehow left in a state conscious enough to regret starting it and want to live, but not coherent enough to turn it off? Fuck me, that's awful to think about.
Hugging a huge quantity of high explosives, all set to detonate simultaneously the instant within 100ms of me pressing a button, sounds like the best way. Even then, what if the detonator went wrong and was delayed by a second? I might change my mind and start running away, not make it far enough, and be paralysed by the resulting non-lethal explosion.
I honestly think I'd end up powering through and resolving to continue living due to fear of a borked method.
(I should clarify that I'm pretty okay with life right now and have no intentions of an heroing. I hope OP is speaking in a similarly hypothetical capacity.)
