Jesus had no attachments. Not even to his body. So he knew he had nothing to lose. That's why he was smiling in the cross and that's why he spoke to the mother of his body in this way:

Jesus knew he was not even Jesus (a name or a form). He knew he was one with God, but he had this role of Jesus to play, so people would be guided.
I'm not sure Mel is aware of this, so his movies about the Jesus doesn't really portray the Messiah, it portrays a mundane person, a person who believed he was the body, and therefore suffered like if he was the body.
Jesus showed the path to us all to become one with God just like he did. That's the role of the Messiah. First understand the teachings, then put them into practice in your daily life. That's the path.
I'm not sure these movies will show this. This is what matters.
