>>2340179English was just the second language i learnt (learnt two more after it) and it was because India used to be a British colony, so most administrative work was in English, thus making schools prioritize teaching it over regional languages. most of the English i know is from reading, and i can speak it better than the other languages i know because English literature is the objectively best ( except for classical languages like Latin, Sanskrit, and classical Greek)
English isn't a "hard" language to learn per se, but it's rules are a bit muddled up and often contradictory. this is probably because it borrows from Latin, French, and Germanic languages almost equally.
thankfully, there is no real rigidity in its grammar ( except for the order of words in a sentence, which isn't there in Sanskrit and its derivative languages) so it's something any adult can learn in a week.
there's no excuse for not understanding English in this day and age
