OG Hopper here. I have been a piece of shit for a very long time. Today put things into perspective for me. At some point in my anger at feeling dehumanized by my perceptions of Binx I went too far and forgot she was just a normal human too. I've said shit I can't take back and that I can't ever apologize enough for. I'm still going to try.

I'm sorry, Bianca. From the bottom of my heart. I'm praying that you have nothing but the best things happen to you for the rest of your trip and the rest of your career. I'm praying that you recover from this and anything else life throws your way. I'm praying that you can grow and have more and more people like the ones who supported you today and less guys like me.

I've obviously not had a very healthy relationship with you for a while and regardless of what those reasons are, and I'm finally not sure myself, the healthiest thing for everyone is for me to try to stay away and not come back until I can be normal. And if that time is never I'm going to have to deal with it. I can't say this is something I'll be able to stick to, but I'm going to make a conscious effort to not be here to rant and vent and shit on you.

It was freezing for minutes at a time, going to the lost connection screen for 20 mins or so at times. Kick seemed better than Twitch for whatever reason but it was still basically unwatchable when I tried and I persisted for quite a while. It sucks for her because I wanted her to have a good comeback stream after the robbery.

I have friends who dj and have dabbled a bit myself. It's more time consuming than you think. I'm not hating on Binx having new hobbies and going in new directions but she was talking about playing shows and I'm not even sure she's mixed for a solid half an hour yet, you have to crawl before you can walk. If I was her I'd practice with someone who already plays similar music to what she has in mind and go back to back with them, that's more fun and easier to manage. But so much of djing is track knowledge you need to be listening to music for hours a day, and not just stuff you already like but going through new tracks and working out how you use them if you like them. There's more to it than just getting up there with 20 of your favourite tracks. While you're starting out you have to treat it like an instrument and be practicing at least an hour a day, if you want to be more than just a hot chick on the decks anyway.

Trying to respond well to a crowd? That's a whole other thing which is going to require knowing a lot of tracks well. And no offense to Binx, djing is really fun with the right people, but listening to someone new practice is going to be quite unpleasant for the casual observer. Drop us an hour of mixing every now and then but don't subject your stream to the trial and error.

Most DJs I know kind of apprenticed under an established DJ at first. Hanging out in the booth getting hands on experience. DJing, like running any kind of sound, needs external feedback as you learn. It's not some lock yourself in your room with a guitar until you're Eddie Van Halen shit. It's a dynamic and fluid learning experience that you really need to be bouncing off other people to start to understand what works, what doesn't, and how you need to adjust for the crowd at hand.

I ran sound for an outdoor concert series for about 4 years and DJed between acts. I didn't know shit when I started, I had a mentor that taught me the basics before the first show, then fed me to the wolves and only corrected me when I was doing something glaringly wrong, hoping that I'd start to catch on before he had to step in.

Three shows later I was wiring up the entire stage by myself, setting up all the monitors, mains, mics, mixer, etc, and my mentor only ever showed up to give me a pat on the back or some advice on prima donnas he was already aware of.

On a sadder note, said mentor died today :/

Ehh... once you get to a certain level of competence, I think it can be. The straight reps of trying different tracks into and out of each other is the only way to really know and is generally how you grow your bag of tricks. Tracks don't always mix exactly like you think they will, perhaps you can have a good idea just from hearing them but you still need to practice fitting them together in reality.

Having a good mentor is like gold so I'm sorry to hear about yours. That sucks.

She's literally trying to make songs in like FL Studio and shit, she's not just playing top 40 club hits at 1.1x speed. And it generally sounds fine to an uncultured ear but I think she's just thinking too big too early and it's going to discourage her if and when it doesn't go the way she expects. I guess I just hope that binx is getting into it because she loves music and entertaining more than "being a dj". And yes, if you want to be entertaining and actually enjoy it then you will be treating it like learning an instrument somewhat. All the serious djs I've known that genuinely liked the process of mixing and finding music spent serious hours playing around.

I've been to shows where it was just a hot girl on the decks going through the motions unmemorably and I don't want binx to turn into that. If you want to get paid and have a following and not just be a meme then you need to be better than the bare minimum.

I'm not trying to deflate binx, I'm saying forget playing shows right now and get your ass on the decks for an hour. Then spend another hour digging around for fun or interesting tracks to mix next time.

I genuinely don't know what point you're trying to make or what you want me to defend lol. BK doesn't look down on me lol. If anything he compliments me pretty regularly, way more often than I compliment him. His opinion of me drastically changed after he joined some of my game dev streams and found out that my schizoposting is mostly just me having fun.
