does anyone else feel like, since the turbulent years of the late 2000's (namely ~2007-2011), pop-culture in general and vidya & the internet specially have been stagnant?
everything feels like it's locked in time. same websites, same posting styles, same aesthetics, same consoles, same genres... in vidya, we even get the same goddamn AAA franchises as we have had over half a decade ago.
even TECHNOLOGY is at a standstill: the only real difference is that the smartphones introduced some 10 years ago have gotten somewhat bigger and somewhat faster, but that's about it. you don't see the kind of transition like tapes -> laserdisks -> floppys -> CDs -> DvDs anymore. and it's all being run by the exact same companies.... there doesn't seem to be any competition between brandnames anymore.
the one really notable development has been the slow seepage of shitty american politics into everything online, but that is a strictly BAD thing.
I dunno. maybe it's just me.
